Infancias en riesgo: la lucha contra la emaciación infantil en África y América Latina

Child wasting, a severe form of acute malnutrition, remains a persistent threat in Africa and, to a lesser extent, in Latin America. This essay offers a comparative analysis of international cooperation efforts carried out between 2020 and 2024 in both regions, focusing on programs led by UNICEF, FAO, and WFP. Case studies include Niger, Ethiopia, Haiti, and the Brazil– FAO Sustainable School Feeding Program. The analysis highlights key differences in sustainability, reliance on external aid, and institutional capacity. The study concludes that while international cooperation has been essential, long-term success relies on strengthening national systems and fostering local ownership, in alignment with SDGs 2, 10, and 17.
